Wall stenciling!

      Renovating our darling cottage is such a wonderous, artistic endeavor! We here at Beekeeper's Cottage in Leesburg, Virginia are so very grateful for the opportunity to do so!

Many visitors ask about the wall finishes in various rooms upstairs. In particular the lovely room stenciled in French script by Royal Design Studio called "Springtime in Paris Letter Stencil".

Sold online at www.royaldesignstudio.com, this large, two-part stencil took several days and several pairs of hands to apply. Below we have a few tips for the adventurous!

Materials needed:
* blue tape
* small piece of cardboard
* bucket of water
* several old hand towels
* small plastic tarp
* small container of chalk paint (we used Martha Stewart umber brown)
... optional...  :-)
* good music!
* margaritas or  bottle of wine

Now let's get to it!!

Get your 3 person team together! One to wash stencil and 2 others to work the wall.

Step 1: Start in a top corner  that you would not readily see.

Step 2: Place stencil on wall and secure with blue tape. Be sure it's straight on the wall

Step 3: Load stencil brush with paint. Then dap excess on cardboard.

Step 4: Move brush gently over each open letter of stencil in a circular motion.

Step 5: Wash stencil with a damp towel.

Step 6: Match up the other half of the stencil and repeat steps 2 and 3.

Step 7: Complete all 4 walls with the whole stencil.

Step 8: Lastly, cut stencil to fit windows, corners etc.

Step 9: Marvel at the result!!
